About This Role:
The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for an Assistant Scientist to join its soil fertility program. The Assistant Scientist will facilitate and help conduct soil fertility field research at multiple locations. Duties will include all aspects of field experiment establishment, maintenance, sample and data collection, and harvesting with corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum and other crops. Related duties will include, planting, fertilizing, spraying, operate and maintain field equipment, collect and manage data, supervise undergraduate student workers, assist graduate students to facilitate their research activities, and communicate with cooperating farmers. What You'll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS degree

Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in Agronomy or related field.
  • Experience conducting agricultural research with small scale plot equipment; statistical analysis of research data; ability to obtain CDL.
  • Experience with the use of fertilizer and chemicals.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office; ability to work with diverse groups of people and good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work extended hours and overnight trips to off-site locations during peak periods, especially during planting and harvesting.
  • Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment.

Other Requirements:
  • Complete safety trainings offered by the university.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:
$44,000 - $60,000

Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
