Extension Educator/Master Gardener Coordinator York County
As Horticulture Educator, this person will be responsible for delivering information on best horticultural practices to the public. He/she will work with fellow Educators and Master Gardener Coordinators to develop effective delivery modes and accessible programming.
As Master Gardener Coordinator this person will direct and coordinate the operation of the Master Gardener Volunteer Program in York County, including recruitment and training of new Master Gardener trainees. The coordinator will work with horticulture educators and the Master Gardeners to deliver research-based home horticulture information to county residents.
Train Master Gardeners to evaluate homeowner growing practices and solve cultural/maintenance problems through education. Manage the Garden Hotline, staffed by Master Gardener volunteers, to answer homeowner questions on pest problems and general home gardening questions utilizing research-based information.
Develop and implement revenue enhancement strategies; including grants, contracts, sponsorships, program/product fees, etc., to enhance educational program resources. Build community partnerships and collaborations with the Extension council and community organizations for the development of educational opportunities. Ensure compliance with affirmative action, providing proper public notifications to include diverse audiences at Extension functions and documentation for reporting purposes. Ensure that Master Gardener volunteers comply with all Penn State policies and meet all legal requirements for Extension volunteers.
This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher; Master's Degree preferred and 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
